How to cook flavoured rice
Why always stick with basics? The joy of cooking is discovering new possibilities and finding ways to create good food that exceeds every expectation. Challenge yourself, cook, and experiment with the world of flavours to elevate your rice creations. Are you ready to add some flavour to your rice? Then this is what you need to know.
Spice up your rice flavouring
Rice in itself can be the ideal canvas for you to experiment with your favourite flavours and cook up a glorious rice dish. Use your trusted classics, keep it simple with just a few twists, or go all out with new, exciting ingredients and turn your basic rice into a breathtakingly flavoured masterpiece.
Grab your favourite pot and toss a good measure of Lurpak® into it. Let the butter melt and wait until it gives you the lively, effervescent signal that it’s sizzling. Then it is time for your spices and other ingredients to join the action. Our favourite flavours for rice are onions, lemon zest, garlic, tomato paste, dry herbs, and spices. Try out different combinations of 7 spice, all-spice, turmeric, saffron, cardamom, cumin, and cloves or use all at once to create impactful flavour.
Chop, sauté, fry and let the Lurpak® transform each and every ingredient into glorious flavours to be perfectly soaked up by the rice.
Cook up the perfect rice
Now, cook your rice. Add the uncooked rice into the pot and stir up an intertwined mix of rice and fried flavours. Then pour the water into the pot and fire up the heat to bring it to a boil. When the water is smoking hot and bubbling almost uncontrollably, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes with the lid on. That’s how every grain of rice will pick up delicious flavour.
Make the day with a little Lurpak®
With just a few carefully selected ingredients and Lurpak® by your side, you can save the day. Butter and rice team up tremendously well and bring out the rich taste of spices and herbs. Your flavour options are endless, cook.
You can make a simple yet genius creation by buttering up the rice and adding fresh herbs. When the rice is cooked and still steaming hot, add a good measure of Lurpak® and your favourite fresh herbs. Fresh rosemary, thyme and some butter can quickly turn the rice’s flavour from traditional to tremendous.
Got some onions to hand? Chop them to your liking and heat up your pan. Grab your Lurpak® and let a good measure melt on the scorching metal surface. Then simply toss the onions in and fry with the butter until they turn golden. Complete the dish by using a fork to gently fluff the steaming hot rice with the fried onions and a little Lurpak®.
How to make the perfect pilau rice
Pilau rice is another favourite – it’s full of flavour and works wonders with butter chicken. The trick to perfect pilau rice is working together fresh ingredients, spices, and a good measure of butter.
Take 1 tsp. of coriander seeds, 4 cardamom pods, 2 tsp. cumin seeds, 1 cinnamon stick and 2 bay leaves. Get out your pestle and mortar or a spice grinder and grind it together. Next, it is time to find your heavy pan, melt a good measure of butter and fry onions and garlic for 5 minutes. Then let just a little ground turmeric and mustard seed join the mix for a couple of minutes until the mustard seeds start popping like popcorn.
Now stir in your basmati rice and coat it with your spice mixture. Add water or chicken stock and sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Keep stirring with a delicate touch until the rice starts to bubble. Cover the pan with a close-fitting lid and cook for 10 minutes.
All you have to do now is to simply remove the pan from the heat and let it rest for another 10 minutes. Only lift off that lid when it’s done resting! Top off your rice with a little Lurpak®. Dot the butter over the rice, fluff with a fork, and smell the greatness.
Now it’s your turn, cook. Strap on your apron and start elevating the flavour of rice like never before.
